The PETR of the Pays de Thiérache raises awareness among nursery and elementary school pupils through the “food class” scheme. This takes place in several stages :

  • workshops to raise awareness about food on subjects such as balanced nutrition, local production, the origin of mass-market products, the seasonality of fruits and vegetables, the different methods of agricultural production;
  • visit to a local producer after having discussed the subject of food in class;
  • Valuation of farm products through a cooking session;
  • actions against food waste with the valorization of ugly fruits and transformation of stale bread;
  • intervention of a dietician on food.

This program has been in place for 5 years and allows us to reach students and their parents.

The Food Classes offer the possibility to address the theme of sustainable, local and healthy food to students. Thanks to farm visits and various activities, children discover local food and agriculture.

The Pays de Thiérache is a territory gathering 4 communities of communes and carrying a Territorial Food Plan since 2018.
